Tracks
You are invited to submit proposals for sessions and presentations in one of the following tracks. Suggestions for additional topics are welcomed although there is no guarantee that they will be included.
1. Translational Medicine
In this track we would like to show how new insights emerging from translational research can lead to clear applications in terms of therapeutics and diagnostics. Examples:
- Translational research in cancer
- Translational research in infectious diseases
- Translational research in CNS diseases
- Translational research in cardiovascular diseases
- Translational research in selected diseases, eg. paediatric diseases
2. Preclinical Research, Biomarkers and Imaging
In this track we would like to address the issues involved in characterising compounds, validating targets and understanding disease mechanisms as well as the predictive value of preclinical findings concerning the efficacy/safety profile of the compound in humans. Examples:
- Assessment of compound safety
- Translating preclinical findings to First-in-Human studies
- Biomarkers and dose selection
- The role of toxicogenomics
- Predictive biomedicine and pharmacogenomics
- Molecular diagnostics and imaging
- Adaptive trial design
3. Stem Cell Based Therapies
This track aims to address stem cell based therapies in various diseases. Examples:
- Spinal Cord Injury
- Autoimmune Disease
- Transplantation
- Diabetes
- Cancer
- Wound Repair
4. Regulations
How are the regulatory agencies responding to the flurry of new technologies and insights in research and development of new therapeutics and diagnostics? Examples:
- Toxicogenomics and its role in preclinical research
- Pharmacogenomics and its role in clinical research
- Pharmacometrics
5. Enabling Information Technologies and Bioinformatics
From gene sequencing via managing bio-repositories to ensuring collaborative R&D and efficiencies in
clinical trials management etc, all rely on innovative technologies and processes to manage the data deluge and linkage challenge. What are the latest developments? Examples:
- Knowledge integration across discovery, preclinical and clinical research
- Collaborative drug discovery
- Semantics in pharmaceutical R&D
- Healthcare IT standards
- Bioinformatics for research and data analysis
- Gene sequencing, SNP genotyping, LIMS, bioinformatics solutions
- Microarray Data Analysis, text mining, semantic databases and other technologies
- Challenges in linking patients’ clinical and omics data
- Clinical trials management and an interoperable IT framework for personalised medicine
- Convergence of electronic health records and clinical trials
- Electronic health information systems and genetic information
- Enabling life science research through the grid
- Streamlining the clinical trial process
6. Collaborative Translational Research Models involving Academia, Industry and Government
As industry and academia are increasingly collaborating on research projects, and collaborative networks of regions and states emerge, new challenges in funding, coordination, information-sharing and scientific priority-setting will be addressed in this track. Examples:
- Aligning academic and commercial research objectives for mutual benefit
- Funding Collaborative Translational Medicine Projects
- Best Practices in Business Partnering and Investment
- Clustering scientific and informatics resources to stimulate research
- Clusters of academic and industry-based research groups
